Antique Fair 5K Run/Walk Planning Begins
Planning is underway for the second annual Scotland County Antique Fair 5K/1.5M Run/Walk event. Race organizers have already begun planning for this year’s race. The inaugural event was a huge success with about 135 participants completing the course in 2007. The event was held on Saturday morning of the fair and started from the West side of the Memphis square in front of City Hall. This year the race will follow the same route, but will begin from the east side of the square in front of Cook’s Mens Store.
The event is sponsored by the Scotland County Health Department and the Missouri Foundation for Health as these groups intend to promote health and wellness to the citizens of Scotland County and northeast Missouri. Last year participants from Scotland, Clark, Knox, Schuyler, Lewis, and Adair counties participated as well as several families from southern Iowa and other areas of Missouri. Race organizers hope for good weather and a larger turnout this year as the beginning steps are being taken to plan the event.
Participation is the main goal again this year. Many prizes will again be offered to all participants rather than to the winners. However, organizers hope to offer trophies or medals to event winners for the 2008 venue.
Race Director, Trinity Davis commented, “We will continue to promote community wellness through participation in this year’s event. But we also want to recognize athletes who perform well in the race this year. We’re hoping to offer door prizes and performance awards alike in ’08. We just hope to offer some healthy choices for the people of this great community.”
Organizers are looking for volunteers and committee members to help plan this year’s event. The group’s first meeting of the spring is set for Tuesday, April 28, 2008 at 6:30 pm. Interested parties may contact the Scotland County Health Department at 465-7275 or Trinity Davis at 216-4617.
