Highway Patrol Investigates Pair of Local Accidents
The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated a pair of accidents that occurred in the area in the past 10 days.
A one-vehicle accident on March 14th resulted in minor injuries to a Memphis woman.
According to the Patrol, Katie M. Ash, 24, was westbound on Highway 136 in a 1995 Jeep when the vehicle dropped off the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the Jeep to leave the roadway again, where it struck a fence and continued through a field where it struck a second fence before overturning and coming to rest on its side.
Ash, who was wearing her seatbelt, suffered minor injuries. She was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital.
The accident occurred two miles east of Arbela at 5:42 p.m.
Ash was ticketed for no valid drivers license.
The second accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. on March 19th.
According to the Patrol, Charles E. Elder, 15, of Downing, was eastbound on a 1985 Honda 3-wheeler on a county road when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.
Elder suffered serious injuries. He was transported by Schuyler County Ambulance to Northeast Missouri Regional Hospital in Kirksville.
The crash occurred on Log Cabin Road, approximately 10 miles east of Queen City.
Just two months in 2008, the Patrol is reporting an increase in the number of traffic accident investigations in the 16-county Troop B region that includes Scotland County.
Through two months, the Patrol has investigated 369 traffic accidents up from 332 during the first two months of 2007. February saw a significant increase, jumping from 145 traffic crash investigations in 2007, to 196 this year.
The region has also seen an increase in crash-related injuries, with 190 people being hurt in those crashes this year compared to 124 in 2007.
February saw five fatalities on Troop B roads, compared to just two last year, bring the total to six for the number of people killed on Troop B roads in 2008.
