Healthy & Active Grant Funds Local Equipment Purchases
It is hard to picture anything more fitting for the description of Healthy and Active than a fitness center or a school physical education program.
The Missouri Foundation for Health apparently agreed with the Scotland County Health Department on this concept as the organization approved a local grant request for $15,000 in funding.
Scotland County Health Department Director Margaret Curry stated the project was funded by MFH as part of the second year of a Healthy and Active program being promoted by the health department.
The grant allowed the Scotland County Fitness Center $10,000 in funding to add another treadmill, elliptical machine and additional exercise equipment.
The grant also allotted $5,000 to the Scotland County R-I School District to be used to purchase new equipment for the districtís P.E. programs.
Curry noted this is the second and final year for the Healthy and Active grant program. It also funds memberships to the fitness center, admittance to the Memphis Swimming Pool and the CARE RollerArena in Kahoka for needy families to offer affordable exercise opportunities.
