Inmates Help Foil Attempted Jailbreak

When one inmate of the Scotland County Jail attempted to make a break for freedom, the only thing standing between him and the front door proved to be another inmate.

Shawn Glidewell, 21, of Memphis, is facing several charges after his attempted jailbreak was foiled by his fellow inmates.

According to Sheriff Wayne Winn, the incident occurred the morning of Friday, January 25th. Glidewell allegedly overpowered the jailer who was opening the cell to allow another inmate to exit on work release. A struggle ensued and Glidewell was able to get away from the jailer and into the hallway. But Glidewells fellow inmate assisted the jailer in detaining him there, and a third inmate aided the duo in returning Glidewell to the cell.

He basically rushed the door as the jailer was releasing the other prisoner, Winn said. He got out but he didnt make it very far thanks to the help of the two inmates.

The jailer and one of the inmates sustained minor injuries in the struggle.

The sheriffs department is seeking charges of attempted escape by striking another person as well as two counts of assault.

Glidewell was being held in the Scotland County Jail awaiting a January 28th court date for sentencing on class C felony forgery charges. He was facing a seven-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
