SCR-I to Begin $240,000 Parking Lot Upgrade
After considering possible upgrades to the parking lot and driveways south of the elementary and high schools, the Scotland County R-I Board of education voted 6-0 on June 16th to commence on a $241,191 project to make it happen.
The district’s engineer Michael Purol from Great Rivers Engineering, outlined the winning bid for the board at the June meeting. The contract was awarded to W. L. Miller.
The project will install a four-inch asphalt surface in the parking areas but calls for a thicker six-inch surface for the bus lanes and the driveways directly adjacent to the sidewalks at both facilities. In addition to the new road surfaces, the project will install cement curb and guttering in an effort to address drainage issues in the parking areas.
Superintendent Dave Shalley stated construction is expected to begin in early July once the summer school program concludes in two weeks. The project is expected to be substantially complete prior to the start of the 2008-09 school year in August.
