Knox County KOís Tigers 63-23

ďMomma said there would be days like this.Ē

Coach Ryan Bergeson may not have uttered those famous words, but he had to use a similar message in the locker room after Scotland Countyís disheartening 63-23 loss at Knox County on Friday night.

If it could go wrong, it did for the Tigers as they took on their conference rival in front of a packed house in Edina.

The Eagles soared in the first period despite Scotland Countyís best efforts to stop leading scorer Daniel McMahon. A box-and-one defense had the sharpshooter working hard to find a shot from the perimeter.

Dennis Dent took advantage of the open space that was created in the four-man zone defense, as he scored 10 points in the first quarter.

McMahon was still able to get his points as well, scoring nine as the Eagles opened the game with a 23-0 run.

Bergesonís pre-season concerns about taking care of the ball proved prophetic as Knox County hounded the Scotland County ball handlers into numerous turnovers in the opening eight minutes allowing the huge run.

Travis Truebloodís basket in the paint as time expired was Scotland Countyís lone points of the first period as the home team led 25-2 after eight minutes of play.

The shooting didnít get much better for SCR-I in the second period. Cody Musgrove, who was a game-time decision to play as he is still feeling the effects of a high-ankle sprain suffered a week ago, made the lone field goal of the second period.

The Tigers did go 8 of 10 from the free throw line but that wasnít enough to keep Knox County from taking a 41-12 lead to the locker room.

McMahon lit it up for 11 points in the third period as Knox County sealed the blowout with an 18-5 run to lead 59-17.

Musgrove led Scotland County with nine points. Trueblood finished with four points for the Tigers, who fell to 3-2 on the season. SCR-I had just five made field goals on the night.

McMahon led all scorers with 30 points. Dent pitched in with 16 points for the Eagles.
