Strong Finish Not Enough to Save Lady Tigers From 56-45 Loss
A good start and a strong finish were not enough to offset a pair of lopsided quarters in between as the Lady Tigers fell to Schuyler County 56-45 on December 4th in Memphis.
Jessica Bair scored the first two baskets of the game to put SCR-I on top 4-0. Valerie Oldham kept the game tied at 8-8 to close the first period as she scored back-to-back buckets.
The turnover bug bit Scotland County in the second period, allowing the Rams to make a 7-0 run to start the second period. Melissa Cotton hit a three pointer to stop the run, before Schuyler County closed on a 9-4 run to lead 24-15 at the intermission.
The third period was much of the same as Schuyler County outscored the Lady Tigers 16-8 to lead 40-23.
But SCR-I made it interesting in the final eight minutes. Kelsey Frazier made back-to-back buckets and Valerie Oldham followed with five straight points to trim the deficit to 42-32.
The Rams began spreading the floor to run valuable time off the clock as it showed less than four minutes to play.
Jessica Bair hit a three pointer with 2:24 to play and then converted a conventional three-point play to make the score 50-43 with 1:55 to go.
But that was as close as Scotland County would get as the Rams held on for the 56-45 victory to drop the Lady Tigers to 1-3 on the season.
ďWe hurt ourselves tonight with 25 turnovers throughout the game,Ē said coach T.J. Young. ďSchuyler County gave us opportunities to stay in the game but we couldnít capitalize on their mistakes, while they took advantage of ours. We need to find consistency in order to be successful.Ē
