Novinger’s No Match For Lady Tigers In 3rd Place Game

Christmas is a time of giving. The Scotland County Lady Tigers were in a sharing mood on December 5th and it paid off for SCR-I to the tune of a 68-43 victory over Novinger that allowed the school to bring home the third place trophy from the Novinger Tournament.

The Lady Tigers experienced their best offensive game of the year and coach T.J. Young attributed that to improved ball movement.

“We did an excellent job of sharing the basketball tonight,” Young said. “We made 30 shots with 22 of those coming via an assist.”

The good passing was fueled by an aggressive game plan that had SCR-I getting up and down the court.

“We finally played our style of basketball tonight,” Young said. “It was a good feeling to get out and run and allow our athleticism to take over the game. We defeated a pretty good team tonight and we made it look easier than it should have been because we got out and ran for 32 minutes. That has to be our key to success.”

Scotland County jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first period. That margin grew to double digits at halftime with the score at 29-19.

The second half was even better for Scotland County. The Lady Tigers outscored Novinger 39-24 after intermission, including a 22-12 run to close out the contest.

Kirsten Johnston led Scotland County with 19 points. She also accounted for nine assists. Kaitlin Caldwell finished with 14 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Melissa Cotton added 10 points to the balanced attack.
