Clark County Offense Overpowers Tigers 48-0 in Homecoming Game

Fans at Tiger Stadium in Memphis on Friday night were serenaded with the sounds of racecar motors at full speed at nearby Scotland County Speedway. The motors were at full throttle at the football field as well as the high-octane offense from Clark County was on display early and often.

The visiting Indians put a damper on the SCR-I homecoming festivities, leaving town with a dominating 48-0 victory.

Clark County won the coin toss and took the opening kickoff. Just two plays later Clark County found the end zone as Ethan Allen connected with Colt Sommer on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Ryan Roberts made the PAT kick to put the guests on top 7-0 with 11:23 left on the clock.

SCR-I was unable to move the chains on its first possession of the night.

Just three plays after the SCR-I punt, Clark County struck again. It took just three plays to move down field as Javis Vineyard scored on an eight-yard run with 8:13 left in the first period. Kegan Hunt broke through the Clark County line to block the extra point kick to keep the deficit at 13-0.

After SCR-I went three and out again, Clark County made it 20-0 on a 21-yard TD run by Vineyard. Roberts added the PAT kick with 4:17 still left in the opening quarter.

Another three and out offensive series for SCR-I was followed by another Clark County score. Vineyard broke free on the first play following the SCR-I punt. The Indians speedster scampered 49-yards for the score. Roberts PAT kick made it 27-0 with 1:59 remaining in the first period.

After SCR-I went three and out, Bryan Plenge quickly set the Indians up for another score as he returned the SCR-I punt to the 13-yard line. Vineyard again scored on Clark Countys first snap from scrimmage, covering the 13 yards for his fourth TD of the first half. Roberts made it 34-0 with the PAT kick with 11:42 to play in the second quarter.

Plenge again put Clark County in scoring position with another solid punt return with 9:42 to go in the first half. Backup tailback Eric Arnold accounted for the 30-yards, capping off three consecutive carries with a three-yard TD plunge with 8:36 on the clock. The Roberts PAT made it 41-0.

Plenge impacted the game on defense as well. He picked off a Kyle Shelley pass on the next SCR-I possession.

But the SCR-I defense held with 6:44 left in the first half. Shelley broke up a pass attempt on fourth down and Clark County turned the ball over on downs with 6:44 left in the half at the 31-yard line.

Clark County took the ball right back as Plenge came up with his second interception of the night, snagging a tipped pass out of the air.

Clark County capitalized on the turnover as Vineyard scored on an 18-yard run with 4:52 to play in the second period. The Roberts PAT made it 48-0.

Clark County racked up 15 first downs in the first half. Vineyard had 120 yards and 5 TDs on just eight carries. Arnold had 47 yards on five attempts. Allen completed six of nine passes for 131 yards. Plenge caught four passes for 91 yards.

Scotland County was unable to move the chains in the first half. Jeff Kice carried the ball five times for 15 yards. Caleb Hunt was held to 12 yards on five attempts. Shelley was unable to crack the Indians defense, going 0-7 passing.

The two teams turned the contest over to the junior varsity squads in the second half as the clock ran unstopped. Neither team scored in the final two periods.

Logan Brassfield led the SCR-I defense on the night with nine tackles. Caleb Kittle finished with six stops and Aaron Neagle and Brandon Garnett each finished with five tackles.

Clark County improved to 6-0, with all six wins over conference foes. SCR-I fell to 0-6 and 0-4 in league play.
