Tournament, Raffle Help Raise Money For Golf Course

Timber Ridge Golf Course got a financial boost Sunday, August 5th with a pair of events. The course hosted a 2-man calcutta golf tournament. When the 19-teams completed the grueling 27-hole event and retreated to the air conditioned club house, organizers completed a $1,000 raffle earmarked for the facilityís new roof.

Three winners were drawn in the raffle. The grand prize of $500 went to Kathy Small, who graciously donated half her winnings, $250, back to the club to help pay for the new roof that was installed on the club house earlier this summer. Keri Hindsí name was drawn as the $300 winner with Brian Mattingly taking home the third prize of $200.

The golfers played nine holes before breaking for lunch and the calcutta auction. The teams then went back into the heat to play the 18-hole calcutta contest and to complete the remainder of the 27-hole tournament.

The team of Brandon Smith and Andy White from Keosauqua, IA, won the championship flight and the calcutta tournament, taking home more than $1,000 in prize money. The duo entered the club house tied for first place with an opening round score of 28. They then went out and shot 13 under par on the final 18 holes to card a score of 55 to win the calcutta. Their combined score of 83 also won the tourney.

Kyle Briscoe and Craig Lytle had an opening round 29. They shot a 57 in the calcutta to earn a score of 86 to take second in the tournament. The team of Scott Stewart and Derick Turner from Lewis County and Quincy, IL, shot a 57 in the calcutta to tie with Briscoe and Lytle for second place in that event.

It was a clean sweep in the A flight as well. Roger Robinson and James Parker won the tournament and the calcutta to take home more than $800 in prize money. The golfers shot a 34 in the opening round to tie for first place. They then shot two under par on the final 18 holes to card a 66 to win the calcutta. Their overall score of 100 was best in the tourney.

Brian and Shad Mattingly took second place in the tourney with an overall score of 102. They shot a 68 to tie for second place in the calcutta with the team of Mark and Steve Mattingly.
