Junior High Boys Finish Second at Home Track Meet
Winning five of the 15 events at the Scotland County junior high track meet was not enough for the host team to overcome the depth of the Putnam County squad. The Midgets raced out to 153 points to win the Scotland County junior high invitational track meet held April 30th in Memphis.
Scotland County earned second place in the eight-team field behind the strong individual performances.
Rod Sears led the way with three top performances. He won the long jump by clearing 17’3¾”. Sears then went on to take first place in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.19 seconds. He wrapped up his afternoon with a top showing in the 1,600-meter run, winning the race in a time of 5 minutes 23 seconds.
Derick Gibson took first place in the discus for SCR-I. He outdistanced the competition by more than 10 feet with a throw of 135’.
Brett Thomas crossed the finish line first in the 800-meter run. He edged out a Putnam County runner on the final steps of the two-lap race to finish in 2 minutes 24.87 seconds.
Logan Brassfield had a solid day for the Tigers. He earned second place in the shot put with a toss of 42’10”. Brassfield then finished second in the 400-meter dash and also took sixth in the 100-meter dash.
Jayston Wright took fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles.
Scotland County relay teams finished second in the 4x100, third in the sprint medley, fourth in the 4x400 and fifth in the 4x200.
