Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Short In 59-53 Loss to Rams
A roller coaster ride ended with Scotland County unable to make it up the final hill as Schuyler County held on for a 59-53 Tri-Rivers Conference victory in Memphis on February 16th.
The Lady Tigers fell behind 6-1 early in the game before buckets from Deidra Dochterman and Kirsten Johnston brought SCR-I right back.
A three–point play by Johnston peaked the first period for the Lady Tigers before Schuyler County rallied to lead 13-8 to close the opening frame.
The Lady Tigers battled back to trim the deficit in the second period. Valerie Oldham scored in the paint before Melissa Cotton hit a three pointer. A bucket inside by Kaitlin Caldwell made it 16-15.
Schuyler County again answered and a 6-0 run forced an SCR-I timeout with 3:44 left in the first half and the Lady Tigers trailing 22-15.
The roller coaster ride continued as Scotland County responded with a bucket by Johnston and a three pointer from Dochterman to pull SCR-I to within 24-20.
Schuyler County made it 30-20 before Johnston converted another three-point play. A jumper by Cheyenne Ward sent the Lady Tigers to the locker room down 32-25.
The Rams appeared poised to take charge of the ride in the third period as Schuyler County expanded its lead to double digits. Scotland County twice cut the margin in half but the Rams regained the momentum to lead 47-37 with just eight minutes to play.
Trailing by as many as a dozen, the Lady Tigers mounted one final charge. Dochterman started the rally with a three pointer. Oldham scored on the fast break before Trisha Harvey scored in the paint. A three-point play by Oldham made it 51-47 with four minutes left on the clock.
The SCR-I press caused several Schuyler County turnovers but the Lady Tigers failed to convert on offense and the lead never fell below four.
Dochterman finished with 14 points to lead Scotland County (8-14, 3-3 TRC). Johnston finished with 12 points and Oldham added 11 points.
