Tigers Stay Unbeaten In League Play By Downing Eagles 72-45

ďThe best game of the year.Ē That was how many fans were describing Scotland Countyís dominating performance Friday night in Edina as the Tigers demolished Knox County 72-45 to remain undefeated in conference play.

SCR-I avenged a loss to the Eagles earlier in the season by riding a hot night of shooting from the perimeter teamed with the inside play of forwards Cody Musgrove and Matt Wickert.

The game opened in eerily similar fashion to the first loss for the Tigers as Knox Countyís Daniel McMahon started right where he left off in December, hitting a pair of three pointers to start the contest for the Eagles.

But buckets by Musgrove and Wickert gave SCR-I the lead back before Cody put in an offensive rebound at the buzzer to put the Tigers ahead 11-8 at the end of the first period.

Wickert converted a three-point play and scored on an offensive rebound to push the advantage to 17-8 with 5:38 left in the second quarter, forcing a Knox County time out.

Knox County pulled within 19-18 after Musgrove went to the bench with two fouls.

But the Tigers weathered the storm as Grant Blomme hit back-to-back three pointers. A bucket by Bryce Blomme made it 29-21 before the Eagles appeared to catch a break at the end of the half when officials counted a three pointer that looked to have left the shooterís hand after the buzzer sounded.

The momentum boost didnít carry over through halftime. SCR-I opened the third period with a run that pushed the lead to 41-30 with 5:12 left on the clock. Bryce Blomme had six points during the key spurt.

Grant Blomme continued his hot shooting from behind the arc as he hit another three pointer and scored seven straight points for the Tigers who closed out the third period on top 53-41.

Scotland County put the contest away with a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Wickertís second bucket of the spurt made the score 63-41 with 5:13 left in the contest.

The Tigers cruised on to the 72-45 victory. Wickert led Scotland County (10-7, 4-0 TRC) with 23 points. Grant Blomme finished with 21 points. Musgrove contributed 16 points while Bryce Blomme added 12. McMahon led Knox County with 20 points.
