Clark County Proves State Ranking With 68-37 Win Over Lady Tigers

The Clark County girls left Memphis on Tuesday evening with few people doubting the Lady Indians deserved the number 8 ranking in Missouriís Class 3 rankings.

SCR-I was no match for the perennial powerhouse as the Lady Tigers fell 68-37 on January 30th in Tri-Rivers Conference action.

Scotland County got out of the gates quickly, taking a 4-0 lead on buckets by Deidra Dochterman and Kirsten Johnston. The Lady Indians looked like they might be in trouble, as they dressed just seven players and had standout Daryle Goldie head to the bench with two quick fouls.

But all-stater Courtney Shuman responded with three key buckets that fueled a 12-0 Clark County run.

Johnston finally ended the drought for SCR-I with a basket and a free throw. But Clark County closed out the first period with an 18-7 lead.

Johnston had a pair of buckets to open the second period but it wasnít enough to keep Clark County from expanding its advantage to 20 points.

A bucket by Dochterman made it 33-13 with 3:02 left in the first half.

Thatís where the score remained for over two minutes before Jessica Bair broke the scoring slump for both squads with a jumper from the wing. Two free throws by the junior forward made it 33-18 but Kenzie Hopp hit a jumper at the buzzer to give the Lady Indians a boost of momentum heading to the locker room ahead 35-18.

Valerie Oldham had five points in the third period for SCR-I but the Lady Tigers still saw the deficit expand to 52-31.

Shuman finished off a dominating performance with seven fourth quarter points to help Clark County outscore the home team 16-6 in the final eight minutes for the 68-37 victory.

Shuman led Clark County (13-4, 4-0 TRC) with 19 points. Hopp finished with 14 while Goldie added 11 and Brittany Logsdon had 10 to balance the attack.

Johnston led Scotland County (7-11, 1-2TRC) with 11 points. Bair finished with nine points and Oldham added seven points.
