Lady Tigers Rally Past Raiders For League Win
Less than a week after pounding North Shelby nearly 20 points it took a mad fourth quarter rally for SCR-I to knock off the Lady Raiders in the team’s conference opener.
Kirsten Johnston scored six points and Deidra Dochterman had the other five points as SCR-I found itself tied with North Shelby 11-11 at the end of the first eight minutes.
North Shelby found its stroke from behind the arc hitting five three-pointers in the second period to build a 32-21 lead as Johnston had eight of Scotland County’s 10 second-period points.
Scotland County outscored North Shelby 14-7 in the third period to trim the deficit to 39-35. Kaela Cook fueled the rally with a three pointer and Trisha Harvey and Melissa Cotton added buckets to the rally.
The comeback was completed in the fourth quarter. Johnston and Cotton both had a pair of clutch buckets during the key stretch in the contest. The Lady Tigers then sealed the game at the free-throw line. Deidra Dochterman scored seven fourth-period points, including five free throws that iced the game late.
Scotland County improved to 7-9 on the year and 1-0 in conference play with the win. Johnston led all scorers with 22 points. Dochterman added 12 points in the win.
