Norma Jean Pence, 77, of Rosewood Care Center, Moline, IL formerly of Rock Island, IL, died Saturday November 10, 2007 at the Care Center.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. November 15, 2007 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, IL. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. November 14th at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, IL, or to Parkinson Association of Illinois.

The former Norma Jean Gleason was born July 24, 1930 in Memphis, MO, a daughter of Arlo Vaughn Gleason and Daisy Fincher Gleason.

She married Paul R. Pence on June 10, 1949 in Memphis, MO. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2001. She was a loyal union wife and lifelong Democrat.

Norma was a working woman long before it became fashionable. She feared that if her husband was ever injured at work, who would take care of the family. She went to school and became an LPN. Her career as a nurse and caregiver for over 30 years was with the former St. Anthony’s Hospital, and lastly at the Rock Island County Health Care Center.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.

Of her many interests, she particularly enjoyed playing the piano, teaching the piano and the occasional trip to the slot machines.

Surviving are her sons, Mark Pence and his life partner, Dr. Robert Archer, Wheaton, IL, Barry Pence and his wife, Kay, Rock Island; son-in-law, Cliff Cobert, Peoria, IL; grandsons, Paul Pence, and his wife Jenny, Las Vegas, NV, and Adam Pence, and his wife, Cassie, Rock Island; great grandchildren, Logan Pence, Alissa Pence, and Indi Pence; brother, Kenneth Gleason, and his wife Virginia, Athens, WV; and two nieces.

Her husband, a daughter, Paulette Cobert, and her parents preceded her in death.
