Hazel Jean Mayfield Davis, 83, of Memphis died Sunday, October 21, 2007, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

Hazel was born June 3, 1924 to Howard and Ethel (Webster) Mayfield in Clark County, MO. She graduated from Memphis High School and received her teaching certificate at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO.

On October 24, 1943, she married Harold Davis, Jr. To this union two children were born: Sharon Kaye Davis Shinn and Ronald Alan Davis.

During her first year of marriage, Hazel taught at Camp Point School in Scotland County. She also worked at Harris Motor Company, General Telephone Company, and The Farmers and Merchants Bank.

Hazel spent her life nurturing and tending to her family, her friends, her vegetable and flower gardens, and cooking wonderful meals for everyone.

She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age and devoted her life to the Lord. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis and taught Sunday School for many years.

Hazie, as most of us called her, will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; parents- in- law; a brother, Dick Mayfield; a sister, Erma Grindle; a brother-in-law, Glen Grindle; and sisters-in-law, Ilene Reuther and Paula Mayfield.

She is survived by: her children, Sharon Shinn of Memphis and Ronald and wife Nancy Davis of St. Louis, MO; sister, Helen Blalock of Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Darla and husband Dr. Jerry Thomason of Hannibal, MO; a brother-in-law, Frank Reuther of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Melanie and husband Joe Slayton and David and wife Meera Shinn, all of Memphis; Amy and husband Tom Heitman and Amber Davis, all of St. Louis; great grandchildren, Amanda Shinn (A.J. Forest) of Kirksville, MO, Brett Shinn and Seth, Ryan and Adam Slayton, all of Memphis; step grandchildren, Michael, Patrick and Matthew Mutchler of Memphis, MO; a soon to be born great great grandson; step great great grandsons, Michael Mutchler and Thaydon Humphrey of Memphis, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held October 24, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Memphis with Dr. Jerry Thomason officiating. He was assisted by Dan Hite, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Vocalist was Schelle Cooley, accompanied by pianist Pam Blaine. Pallbearers were Joe Slayton, A.J. Forest, Seth Slayton, Brett Shinn, Mike Frazier, Chipper Harris, Ryan Slayton, and Adam Slayton. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery.
