David Richard Padgett, 80, died at his home in Ozark, MO, on September 10, 2007, following a few months battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held September 13, 2007, in Springfield, MO, with his nephew, Robert Neese and stepson-in-law, Bill Schaeffer officiating. Pallbearers were Nathan and Byron Briggs, David Padgett, George Schaeffer, Billy Joe Jones, and Clayton Cryer. Interment was in Selmore Cemetery just south of his home at Ozark.

Dick was born June 13, 1927, in Memphis, MO, the son of Edgar B. and Orilla (Morgan) Padgett.

He was a graduate of Memphis High School. Following graduation, he settled in southern California. There, he married Pauline Morgan. Dick served in the military, worked for a dairy, and then as a millwright and site foreman until he retired from Jarvis Webb Co. of Los Angeles.

At the age of 22, Dick received Christ as his Savior and upon his death was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Burlington, AR.

On January 6, 1990, he married Hazel Creager, who survives. Other survivors include, step-children Helen Ruffa and Barbara Morgan of California, Joe Neal Jones and wife, Angela, Joyce Schaeffer and husband, Bill of Omaha, AR, Dixie Watts and husband, Bill of Harrison, AR; one sister, Barbara Briggs and husband, Roger of Rushville, IL; sister-in-law, LeGene Padgett of Memphis, MO; and brothers-in-law, Joe Neese of Rutledge, MO and J.P. Childers of Memphis, MO; as well as many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Pauline; step-son, George Morgan; brother, Clifford Padgett; sisters, Mary Evelyn Childers and Jacquelyn Neese; and step, granddaughter, Dawn Morgan.

Dick was a gifted and talented craftsman, a hard worker, always willing to help others. He will be remembered as one with a generous spirit, a twinkle in his eye, a great sense of humor, and one who knew how to have fun.
