Harold J. Gray, 78, passed away at his home in Lancaster, MO, on September 21, 2007.

The son of Raymond James and Elaine (Lehr) Gray, Harold was born on December 28, 1928 in rural Davis County, IA.

On March 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Daisy Shepherd at the home of Thurman Andrews, north of Lancaster, MO. To this union four children were born, Bob, Jack, Steve and Nancy.

Survivors include his wife, Daisy Gray of Lancaster, MO; his four children, Bob Gray and his wife, Janie of Hamilton, MO, Jack Gray and wife, Vicky of Lancaster, MO, Steve Gray of Lancaster, MO and Nancy Elliott and husband, Scott of Downing, MO; 12 grandchildren, Mike and Kimi Gray, Brady and Hedi Gray, Greg and Amanda Gray, Sara Gray, all of Hamilton, MO, Ben Gray of Cape Girardeau, MO, Martin and Melissa Gray Salgado of Kirksville, MO, Travis Gray of Kansas City, MO, Seth and Tamira Gray of Lancaster, MO, Kerry, Tony and Tacy Elliott of Downing, MO; 12 great-grandchildren, Dakota, Karly, Hanna and Brandon Gray, Elizabeth Gray, Kenna, Rain and Jade Gray, all of Hamilton, MO, Tahli, Jordyn, Bella and Violet Salgado, all of Kirksville, MO; one special aunt, Bessie Whiteside of Roseville, IL, with whom he lived as a child; one sister-in-law, Mildred Mullins and husband, George of South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Charles Shepherd and wife, Ellen of Chicago, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members; a host of good friends; many good neighbors including three who were special to come and visit with Harold almost every day during his illness, John Tippett, Deryl Swedberg, and Max Kelsey.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father, Estelle Jones.

Harold was a lifetime farmer raising beef and dairy cows, hogs, and sheep. He also had a great love for horses and mules. Harold worked for the CB & Q Railroad and worked on farms in Illinois before moving back to Missouri where he drove a truck for the MFA, Glenwood Elevator and the Schuyler County Road & Bridge.

Harold treasured the time he was together with his children and grandchildren and loved going to yard sales.

Funeral service was held on September 24, 2007 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO, with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Lancaster United Methodist Church officiating. Music was special CD selections. Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society, Hospice or donors choice. Burial was in the Fabius Cemetery, east of Lancaster, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO.
