Wilma Meinhardt Galbraith was born July 31, l918 on a farm near Farmington, Lee County, IA. She was the first-born child of Mary Barton and Otto Meinhardt.

Wilma was a registered nurse and served in World War II as a First Lieutenant in the US Army Nursing Corps. She married Captain Dr. J.R. Galbraith June 1943. They lived in Canton, MO for nearly 50 years. They moved to Mason, OH in 1991. They resided at the Mason Christian Village where Wilma passed away June 15. Her husband preceded her in death in August 1991 and their daughter, Jean in May 2002.

After rearing their 10 children, she returned to nursing at St. Josephís Hospital Keokuk, IA, then to the Lewis County Nursing Home until her retirement in 1991. She was awarded Mother of the Year by the State of Missouri for 1970-1971. In Canton, Wilma was a leader in 4-H, American Legion Auxiliary, Missouri Federation of Womenís Clubs, Canton Public School, St. Annís Alter Society, and St. Josephís Church. In Mason, OH, she was President of the Mason Christian Village Association and active in Mason Veterans Association.

Survivors include three daughters: Jane Freeman of Tulsa, OK, Joan Minton of Kell, IL, and Cathy Schwartz of Highlands Ranch, CO; six sons: Sam of Marietta, GA, Jan of Moline, IL, Neal of West Chester, OH, John and Rodger of Cincinnati, OH, and Jim of Maineville, OH; 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; one sister Thelma Gaffney of Memphis, MO; and four brothers: George of Memphis, MO, Wayne of Luray, MO, Dale and Dean of Kahoka, MO.

Funeral arrangements were by Paul R. Young Funeral Home of Mt. Healthy, OH. Services were Monday, June 18th, at Mason Christian Village. Internment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mason, OH with military honor guard and 21-gun salute. Pallbearers were her granddaughters and grandsons.

Services were also held on July 7 at St. Paulís in Kahoka and a memorial mass was held at St. Josephís in Canton on July 8. The family has suggested a donation in the name of Wilma Galbraith to St. Annís Alter Society, Missouri 4-H Clubs, or the Missouri Federation of Womenís Clubs.
