William F. ďBillĒ Colbert, 68, of Gorin died February 16, 2007 at his home in Gorin.

He was born the son of Roy and Helen (Day) Colbert on September 2, 1938 in Clarksville, MO.

Bill was married to Dorothy Kussman on June 5, 1996, in Edina by Roy Parcell. She survives.

He was previously married to Mary Minor, and to that union was born Penny, Carla, Bill, Tina, and Robert.

Bill was also married to Vicki Miles. To this union was born James and Julie.

He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Gorin.

Bill was a hard worker, and even in his spare time enjoyed tinkering. He never threw anything away, and has a countless number of clocks at his home that he had salvaged and repaired. He was currently restoring a 1952 Chevy, and has four of them that he was using for parts. If a part broke on anything, he had a mill and lathe so that he could fashion a new one.

He worked repairing sewing machines for 35 years at various factories, including the National Garment Co. in Memphis. He also had worked at Microenergy in Memphis. Bill never quit a job, he worked until he was laid off or the plant closed. The day after he was laid off at Microenergy, he answered an ad for Charles Industries in Canton, MO, and worked there until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Charles Laird; brother, Marion (Johnnie) Colbert; and a son, Robert.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kussman of the home; children: Penny and husband Wayne Brockensick and Carla and husband Billy Niffen, both of Troy, MO, Bill and wife Norma Colbert of Silex, MO, Tina Scott, James and wife Katie Colbert of Boonville, MO, and Julie and husband Tommy Hagen of Pensacola, FL; stepchildren, Regina Hayhurst, Duane Howard, Becky Horton, Brenda Miller, Echo Pelster, Melody Peterson, Crystal Byrns, and Ivy Garmon; sisters: Linda Hudson and Sandy Buchanan of Frankfurt, MO, Rose Mary Howard of Clarksville, MO, and Helen and husband Bill Gunn of Duncanville, TX; brothers: Mike and wife Judy Colbert of Clarksville, MO, Robert and wife Karen Colbert of Hawthorne, NV, and Raymond Colbert of Quincy, IL; brother-in-law, Rex Teel of Kahoka, MO; sister-in-law, Mary Church of Palmyra, MO; grandchildren: Israel and wife Christina Slaughter, Shelly and husband Jess Jobe, Erika and husband Robert Armstrong, David and wife Robin Slaughter, Robert Wayne Niffen, Teresa and husband Shawn Crawford, Billie Sue and husband Eddie Ash, Melissa Niffen, Billy and wife Melissa Colbert, Kim Colbert, Nichol and husband Craig Summerville, Barbara and husband Romaldo Cisneros, Becky and husband Steven LaRue, Tom and wife Meghan Farley, Tim Willingham, James Willingham, Kristopher Colbert, Dylan Colbert, Katelyn Colbert, Tyler Colbert, Jacob Colbert, Allyson Colbert, and Rebekah Deakle; great-grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler, Cheyenne, Jessie, Katie, and Dalton Jobe, Joyce, Jerry Lee, Tyson, Cammorn, Matthew, Toni, Keighan, and Kaine Slaughter, Austin, Ashley, Michael, and William Niffen, Destinee, Kylee, MaKayla, MaKenzie Michael, Ethan, and Devon Colbert, Elizabeth and Donald Summerville, Jeremy Dawson, Abby, Ally, and Romaldo V. Cisneros, and Matthew, Brandon, Chelsi, and Lauren LaRue; several nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren who loved him dearly.

Funeral services were held February 20, 2007 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Gorin with Leland Oliver, the pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church officiating, and Larry Howell, pastor of the Gorin United Methodist Church, assisting. Marsha Davis performed Iíll Fly Away prior to the service.

Rex Teel, Paul Ogg, Mike Cantril, Michael Kraus, Mike McNichols, and Kristopher Colbert served as pallbearers. Tim Farley, Tyler Colbert, Jacob Colbert, Robert Niffen, Tim Willingham, Dylan Colbert, David Slaughter, James Willingham, Allen Peterson, Israel Slaughter, and Billy Colbert III were honorary pallbearers. Burial was in the Gorin Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Gorin Cemetery Association, Hospice of Northeast Missouri, or the American Cancer Society and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555,
