Edward James Skelton, 88, of Milton, Iowa, died February 11, 2007 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

He was born June 24, 1918, at Farmington, Iowa, to Albert and Ruth Wright Skelton.

He graduated from Milton High School in 1935. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII.

Ed was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Russell Strait Post #483 American Legion in Milton and the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post 4958 V.F.W. in Memphis.

He married Jewel Meeks at Memphis, Missouri on March 9, 1967. He farmed near Milton until his retirement in 1995.

Ed enjoyed playing cards and loved visiting with people and he especially enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters. He was an avid Cardinals fan and loved his kitty cats.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel, of the home; a son, David Bechtel of Plano, Iowa and his special friend, Janet Graham of Memphis, Missouri and two granddaughters, Amanda Bechtel and Alaynah Bechtel. Other survivors include a sister, Dorothy Scott and her husband, Lowell, of Cantril, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy and a sister, Hattie Newland.

Visitation will open after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, Missouri, with the family present from 6 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the Memphis Funeral Home on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Music will be provided by Pam and Mike Blaine. Burial with full military honors by the Russell Strait Post #483 American Legion of Milton will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton, Iowa. Casket bearers will be Paul Campbell, Lon Creath, Phillip Gaffney, John Huff, Owen Moore and Steve Speer. Honorary bearers will be Bonar Bell, Alan Henderson, Leroy Robison and Eugene Cone

Memorials may be made to the Milton Meal Site, the Russell Strait Post #483 American Legion of Milton and the Memphis Christian Church.
