Tommy F. Shalley, 74, of Memphis, MO, died January 31, 2007, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Tommy was born June 5, 1932, to Fred and Enna Hathaway Shalley in Greensburg, MO.

He married Dixie Beeler on May 29, 1955, and to this union three children were born, Doug, David and Pam.

Tommy graduated from Memphis High School in 1950. After graduation he served in the United States Army. Tommy also sold feed for Pillsbury Feeds throughout the Midwest area before obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1962.

Tommy began his teaching/coaching career at Wyaconda, MO, in 1961 while still attending college. In 1963 he began teaching and coaching in Memphis. While at Memphis, his duties included Transportation Director, Athletic Director, COE instructor, and Physical Education instructor. His coaching duties included boysí and girlsí basketball, baseball, softball, track, and golf until his retirement in 1995. During his tenure at Scotland County R-I, he received many honors and awards. His varsity basketball teams recorded over 300 wins including two District Championships, an Elite Eight Appearance and two Tri-Rivers Conference Championships.

Tommy was in business in Memphis for several years.

Tommy enjoyed attending Scotland County athletic events, following his grandchildrenís activities, traveling and frequent trips to the riverboat.

Survivors are his two sons, Doug and his wife, Vicki, Dave and his wife, Stephanie, and a daughter, Pam, all of Memphis, MO; six grandchildren, Chris Nelson of New Orleans, LA, Angie Gunther and husband, Tim of Abingdon, IL, Catie Shalley, Jenna and Marcus Shalley, and Colby Brown, all of Memphis, MO; three great-grandchildren, Payton Hamilton and Hayden and Emma Gunther, all of Abingdon, IL; two sisters-in-law, Lelsie Clark of Memphis, MO and Mary Jo Swallow and her husband, Jim of Hamilton, IL; several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dixie; one brother, William Shalley; and two sisters, Shirley Shalley and Dorothy Riney.

The family has suggested memorials to the Scotland County R-I Athletic Department, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on February 3, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles McCracken officiating. Musicians were Connie Courtney, organist, and Tom Cotton, vocalist. Pallbearers were Lynn Riney, Richard Mathes, Scott Kelley, Mark Kelley, Ryan Clark, and Larry Riney. Honorary pallbearers were PeeWee McDonald, Vaughn Fogle, and Gerald Purvis. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Military graveside services were by conducted by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post #4958 of the VFW.
