GERALD GENE GRAY

Gerald Gene Gray, 53, of Memphis, MO, died February 1, 2007, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Gene was born October 30, 1953, to Gerald and Jewel Faye (Taft) Johnson. In 1957, Gene was adopted by Gerald and Mable Gray of Memphis, MO.

On August 18, 1973, Gene was united in marriage to Linda James, and to this union three children were born, Amanda, Batina, and Jalisa.

Gene graduated from Memphis High School in 1972. After graduation he moved to Quincy, IL, to work at Electric Wheel. In 1974 Gene and Linda returned to Scotland County to farm with Harry James until purchasing a farm northeast of Memphis in 1978. Gene farmed and drove a bus until taking a job at Memphis Farm and Home. Gene served as a Memphis Police Officer during 1990 and 1991. He worked at Pepsi-Cola and the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office until becoming disabled.

Gene was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed sharing these hobbies with his family and close friends. Gene loved to spend time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Gray, three daughters, Amanda Gray, Batina Dodge, and husband, Matt, and Jalisa Gray and fiancé, Darrell Shepard, all of Memphis, MO; three sisters, Kathy Jenkins and Vicki Gray of Quincy, IL, and Mary Hoyt and husband, Gary of Lancaster, MO; one brother, Gary (Bear) Johnson and wife, Carol of Kahoka, MO; father-in-law, Harry James and wife, Betty of Knox City, MO; two-sisters-in-law, Judy Woods of Edina, MO and Cindy Brush of Memphis, MO; two grandchildren, Grady and Mazy Dodge, two step-grandchildren, Alexis and Gage Dodge; special friend, Bill Holland, all of Memphis, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, George Herring; mother-in-law, Alberta James; and one sister-in-law, Penny James.

Memorial are suggested to the family and may be left or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held February 4, 2007, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Gene wishes were to be cremated.
