RICHARD LESTER ďDICKĒ DAVIS

Richard Lester ďDickĒ Davis, 85, of Keokuk, IA, died January 5, 2007, at Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA.
Mr. Davis was born December 23, 1921, on a farm north of Memphis, MO, the son of Howard and Dora Frank Davis. He attended Memphis High School.
He married Margaret Arnold in Colorado Springs, CO, in 1942. She preceded him in death in November 1965. He then married Mary Jane Ainsworth in Quincy, IL, in 1977. She survives.
He served in the United States Army in the European Theater during World War II. With a Staff Sergeant rating, he was in the 30th Infantry Division as a squad leader, as well as a platoon leader. He entered the service in 1942 and was discharged in 1945 with one Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars. He toured England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany.
He was employed at Hubinger Company for 11 years. He also worked for Purolator Courier Corporation for 17 years. He was a master upholster and repairman. He was proud of his trade and his work.
He was a member of New Testament Christian Church, Southside Boat Club, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He valued his time spent with his family and in his church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Davis of Keokuk, IA; four sons, Larry Davis and his wife, Mary of Montrose, IA, Lynn Davis of Lansing, MI, Tom Davis and his wife, Mindi of Keokuk, IA, and Tim Davis and his wife, Jennifer of Poplar Grove, IL; two stepsons, James I. Means, II of New Orleans, LA, and Joe Hayden of Las Vegas, NV; two stepdaughters, Rose Cannegieter of Belvedere, IL, and Cathy Hayden of Las Vegas, NV; a foster son, Larry Noble and his wife, Kim of Ft. Madison, IA; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Bryant of Memphis, MO; and his faithful dog ďBearĒ.
In addition to his wife, Margaret, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Howard L. Davis, and a stepson, Ray Hayden.
Funeral services were held at DeJongís Funeral Home, Keokuk, IA, on January 8, 2007, with Brother Bill Hauser of the New Testament Christian Church. Casketbearers were Tom Davis, Tim Davis, Larry Davis, Larry Noble, Jimmy Means, Dale Miller, Shawn Daniels, and Paul George. Interment with Military Rites was by the V.F.W. and American Legion, with burial in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, IA.
