Memphis Man Killed in Crash Near Clarence
A Sunday afternoon accident claimed the lives of four northeast Missouri residents. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a two-vehicle crash occurred at 2:21 p.m. on November 25th on U.S. Highway 36 1½ miles west of Clarence.
Philip E. Payne, 72, of Memphis was eastbound in a 2005 Toyota when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck head on a westbound 2006 Hyundai. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Raymond W. Duckworth, 91, of Macon, was the driver of the westbound vehicle. His wife, Evelyn C. Duckworth, 89, and his sister Dorothy H. Williams, 86, both of Macon, were passengers in the vehicle. All three were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Shelby County Coroner Ralph Eagan.
Boyd T. Croley, 93, Payne’s father-in-law, suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken by AirEvac helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelby County Rescue Squad, Clarence Fire Department, Missouri Department of Conservation, Macon County Ambulance and Macon County Rescue Squad.
