Stolen Van Recovered Minus Contents Valued at $3,800
For the second time this month the Memphis Police Department is investigating a vehicle theft. But unlike the first occurrence when the car was stolen for transportation, the second incident appears more likely to have been a burglary.
The MPD reported a 1997 Dodge van was stolen from a parking spot in the rear of the Weiler Auto Parts store one block of the city square. The Hoover Electric van was stolen at approximately 8:30 p.m. on November 8th.
It was recovered at 12:30 p.m. on November 9th off Highway 15 just across the Iowa state line.
Approximately $3,800 in tools, wiring and other electrical service supplies were reportedly stolen from the van.
The MPD was assisted at the scene by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers from the Memphis Police Department are encouraging motorists to lock their vehicles in light of the recent rash of auto thefts.
