Food Drive Underway For Scotland County Food Pantry

Well over 150 community families find a little extra help to stretch the grocery dollars they spend by visiting the Scotland County Food Pantry at the monthly food distribution.

Every month a truck delivers several tons of food from the Central Missouri Food Bank. The delivery also contains items from the U.S.D.A. All that food is removed from the truck by a forklift and driver donated by the two local lumberyards. With the help of SCR-I High School students and other volunteers, pallets of food are moved into the Food Pantry facility where it is sorted and stacked for distribution. Another group of volunteers comes together on distribution day to help neighbors “shop” and carry their groceries to their cars.

“We would like to help our neighbors a bit more with their grocery needs, especially as we come into the Thanksgiving and Christmas season,” said Jack Sumption of the First Christian Church. “We are encouraging individuals and organizations throughout the County to participate in a food drive for the Scotland County Food Pantry.”

A collection of non-perishable food items will be gathered at the Community Thanksgiving Service on November 20th at 7 p.m.

“With your help and that of area organizations, truckloads of items may be collected to add to the monthly food distribution between Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said Sumption.

If you have any questions about the food drive, what to donate, or how to arrange for assistance in getting donations to the Community Thanksgiving service, call Nancy Kapfer, Food Pantry Director at 465-8959 or contact any Scotland County minister or pastor.
