Bible Grove Preservation Day Set For August 18th

“Bring your lawn chairs and join us for some old fashioned fun!”

That saying has become the battle cry for the annual Bible Grove Preservation Day. The 17th annual celebration of the rural Scotland County community will be held Saturday, August 18th at the Bible Grove school building.

The Bible Grove School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. All proceeds for the day’s events go toward the preservation of the building.

Many of the day’s events center around local history. The museum room in the school house opens at 10:00 a.m. that day for viewing. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments from the food stands that will also open at that time.

One of the biggest draws of the day, the trap shoot, will get underway at 11:00 a.m. Organizer Lisa Wells is expecting another large field of competitors for the contest. For more information or to register contact Wells at 883-5623.

Spectators will be treated to a corn bread and kettle bean lunch at noon.

The shooting doesn’t stop there. The Indian Creek Muzzleloaders will host a black powder shoot at 1:00 p.m. For more information contact organizer Max Hamilton at 465-2206.

Spectators will also be treated to a garden tractor pull at 1:00 p.m.

History buffs will enjoy the presentation on Our Miss Ella by author Bette Wiley that is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The kids will be treated to a hay scramble at 2:00 p.m. The dime toss and jail house entertainment also commence at that time. A cake walk is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

The evening kicks off with a grilled chicken supper starting at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $7 with children’s meals for only $3. Uncle John’s Karaoke will be the evening entertainment starting at 8:00 p.m. The 50/50 drawing and other raffle prize winners will be announced at 9:00 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Bible Grove Historical Preservation Committee.
