Youth Center to Host Summer Band Jam To Aid Wish List
Five area bands will converge on The Place in Memphis on Saturday, August 4 for the Memphis Summer Band Jam Part Deux.
The second installment for the area showcase of musical talent will start at 4:00 p.m. with a barbecue to be followed by the first band taking the stage at around 4:30 p.m. The lineup for the event will include Alex and Nathan, Kenian, SO2, the Laik Effect and Cohesion.
“Each [band] will bring a unique sound and energy to the stage that will offer a diverse listening experience that is sure to satisfy all ears,” said Brandon Alexander of the Place.
The $4 cover charge for the event will go to charity, with the proceeds of the event earmarked for the local Wish List program. The non-profit organization was established to aid underprivileged children across the region.
The concert will serve as a fundraiser for the wish list but Alexander noted he hopes it will also raise awareness for the youth center.
The Place is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
“The center offers a positive environment for the youth of Memphis and the surrounding area to enjoy a variety of games, a karaoke system, as well as a fully functional kitchen,” Alexander noted.
The list of entertainment includes air hockey, darts, billiards, ping-pong and foosball. The center will soon be featuring computers with high speed Internet access.
“All the amenities make The Place a well rounded facility for the community’s enjoyment,” Alexander said. “And it is quickly becoming one of the areas best music venues for the local music scene.”
The Place is a non-profit organization operating through public financial support as well as a number of programs. The center currently is recycling aluminum cans, ink cartridges and cellular phones. All of these items may be left at the center during normal business hours for donation to the program.
