Concrete Truck Accident Caps Off Busy 10 Days For Highway Patrol

Area drivers were injured in four separate accidents in northeast Missouri during a dangerous 10-day period.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has been busy in northeast Missouri with a number of traffic accidents involving area drivers.

Three Shelby County teens were hurt when the car they were traveling in, pulled into the path of a semi hauling concrete.

The accident occurred on Wednesday, June 27th at 11:30 a.m. on Highway 151, half a mile north of Leonard.

According to the Patrol, Jace C. Caldwell was driving a 1997 Pontiac westbound on County Road 124. He failed to yield at the stop sign while making a left hand turn onto Highway 151. The car pulled into the path of a 1998 Volvo tractor trailer being driven northbound by Dennis L. Blaine, 45, of Memphis.

The concrete truck, which is owned by M & O Concrete of Memphis, struck the car in the front left fender, before traveling off the roadway and over turning. The car went off the right side of the roadway where it came to rest.

Caldwell, 16, of Leonard, sustained moderate injuries. Zach Caldwell, 15, also suffered moderate injuries while a second passenger in the car, 16-year-old Michael E. Coe, of Shelbyville, suffered serious injuries. All three teens were transported by Salt River Ambulance Service to Macon Samaritan Hospital.

Blaine was not injured in the crash.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Shelby County Sheriffs Department and the Novelty and Plevna Fire Department.

Earlier that morning the Patrol had investigated a one-car crash in Clark County, three miles southeast of Luray.

Penny S. Webb, 37, of Wyaconda, suffered moderate injuries when she rolled her 1997 Chevy Blazer. The accident occurred at 1:45 a.m. on Route BB.

According to the Patrol, the westbound vehicle ran off the left side of the road, entered back onto the road before overturning and coming to rest on its top in the middle of the road.

Webb was transported by Clark County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital. She was ticketed for DWI and driving without a valid drivers license.

The previous weekend, the Patrol investigated a pair of accidents involving local drivers.

A Rutledge man suffered moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 15, three miles north of Edina. The crash occurred at 1:00 a.m. on June 16th.

Aubrey D. Cavenaugh, 46, was westbound on Route AA in a 2000 Ford Explorer. The vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of Highway 15 and traveled across the highway, becoming airborne before striking a foot bridge on the Edina golf course.

Cavenaugh was transported by Knox County Ambulance to SCMH.

He was ticketed for DWI and careless and imprudent driving.

The Patrol responded to a crash at 4:55 p.m. on June 17th on 14th Street in Downing.
