Hard Work to Pay Off For Fair Exhibitors at Junior Livestock Sale

Kids are taught that hard work and dedication pay off. For participants in the programs at the Scotland County Fair, “payday” will be Saturday, June 23rd.

Area businesses will converge on the livestock arena at the fairgrounds for the Junior Livestock Sale, which gets underway at 9:00 a.m.

The event allows boosters to purchase show animals from the fair, rewarding the exhibitors by paying premium prices for the animals and other exhibit items put up for sale by the kids.

Buyers have the option of taking possession of the purchase or sending the animal on to the sale barn for resale. The later process allows the buyer to pay a premium above the floor price as established by the local livestock markets. Buyers taking possession of the animal need to make arrangements for transportation and locker appointments.

The beef exhibits will sell first followed by sheep, wool, art hall and other projects and finally the swine exhibits. Champion and reserve champion animals will sell first followed by the rate of gain winners.
