Local Groups Bringing Abe Lincoln Back to Memphis
Rotary, Theta Tau and Epsilon Iota are cooperating with the Memphis Community Players to bring President Lincoln and his wife, Mary back to Memphis.
It is not a time machine, but the next best thing. Max and Donna Daniels have an extensive background in community theatre and have been portraying Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln professionally since 1988.
They will be returning to Scotland County on Tuesday, April 24th. The Daniels have visited Memphis, as the Lincolns, on several occasions, dating back to the first trip for the Bring John Home special event two years ago.
Abe and Mary will give two programs at Scotland County Elementary School, one for students in kindergarten through third grade followed by a show for the fourth, fifth and sixth graders.
That evening they will be on stage at the Memphis Theatre for a program at 7:00 p.m.
ďIf you will recall, they were here a couple of summers ago,Ē said Dr. Harlo Donelson of the Community Players. ďWe are able to have them return for another visit. With the help from these sponsoring groups, we will be able to present President Lincoln and his wife Mary to our people at no charge.Ē
Donelson encouraged spectators to get the costumes out and dress in period clothing for the evening program.
ďThee Memphis Community Players would like to say how much they appreciate Rotary and the Beta groups for their continued support in helping us bring programs of this caliber to our area,Ē Donelson stated.
He added that the groups hope that all the seats can be filled at the theatre to welcome the President and his wife back to Northeast Missouri.
