Mizzou Jazz Group to Perform in Memphis

Hitt St. Harmony, a premier vocal jazz ensemble from the University of Missouri- Columbia, will be performing a free concert at the Memphis Theatre on Tuesday, March 6th beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The select ensemble is compiled of 12 singers and a small jazz combo. Hitt St. Harmony specializes in performing choral arrangements of jazz standards as well as tunes from Broadway musicals and blues settings.

The singers of Hitt St. Harmony are of the most skilled and talented at Mizzou. The members must be able to match the style that is appropriate to each genre. These singers also read difficult repertoire that spreads the texture of the choir from four parts to as many as eight, often requiring that each performer sing on an individual line.

Rehearsing just two hours a week, the difficult repertoire that this ensemble masters requires much individual hard work and attention, reflecting the intelligence and diligence of these students.

Hitt St. Harmony is made up of performers from a wide spectrum of majors, embodying the diversity that Mizzou holds dear.

Members of the ensemble are:

Soprano - Natalie Gibbs, a music major from St. Louis; Danica Pape, a social work major from O’Fallon; and Robin Schweitzer, a music education major from Jefferson City;

Alto - Cheron Coleman, a psychology major from Springfield; Susan Kim, a music major from St. Louis; and Tessa Waters, a music history major from Fairway, KS;
