SCR-I Wallops Wildcats 76-55 In Hoops Season Opener

A strong start by Bevier threatened the Scotland County boys basketball season opener, but the Tigers closed out the final three periods in style to knock off the Wildcats 76-55 in the first round of the Novinger Tournament on November 28th.

Sam Thrasher hit a pair of early three pointers as the seventh seed jumped ahead of the Tigers in the first period. Cody Musgrove scored six straight points for Scotland County, including an impressive display of ball handling as the center went coast-to-coast for the lay in after a rebound to keep the game close.

Trailing 16-15 to start the second period, the Tigers turned to Grant Blomme for their offense. The senior made eight consecutive points for the second-seeded Tigers as they pulled ahead 25-19.

Scotland County got some impressive play from a pair of forwards off the bench as Brandon Dale and Kyle Shelley made big contributions to the second period rally that put SCR-I ahead 29-26 at the intermission.

The spurts continued for the Tigers as Musgrove poured in seven straight points for the Tigers to start the third period. Back-to-back fastbreak buckets by Bryce Blomme and Travis Trueblood forced a Bevier timeout with 3:37 left to play as the Wildcats sensed the game slipping away with a 40-32 deficit.

Bevier had no answers in the fourth quarter as Scotland County blew the game open with a 14-2 run to start the final period. The Blomme brothers combined for 14 points in the games final eight minutes as Scotland County (1-0) ran away with the 76-55 win and advanced to take on #3 seed Green City in the tourney semifinals.

Grant Blomme led SCR-I with 22 points. Musgrove and Bryce Blomme each finished with 18 points while Dale added eight points off the bench.

Beviers Cory Jennings led all scorers with 28 points and Thrasher finished with 13 points for the Wildcats.
