Smith, Rimer Win Two-Man Calcutta at Timber Ridge
The team of Wes Smith and Mark Rimer came alive on the final 18 holes of the two-man Calcutta golf tourney at Timber Ridge Golf Course on August 6th to claim both the tournament and calcutta wins.
After shooting just two-under-par on the opening nine holes of the event, the team scorched the course the final two rounds. They went 15-under-par on the final 18 holes to score a 53 to win the calcutta and finished with an 85 overall to win the tournament by four strokes.
The team of Chase Moore and Chris Hunt, the opening round leaders, had to settle for second place in the tournament. The duo shot a nine-under par 59 on the final 18 holes, after an opening round 30, to finish the day with an 89. The team tied for second place in the calcutta (scored on the final 18 holes) with the team of Matt Oliver and Chris Oliver, who also were nine under par on the final two rounds. They finished third in the tourney with a score of 90.
In the A flight it was Tom McCabe and Larry Miller coming from behind to win the A flight. They shot a round of 97 to win both the tournament and the calcutta titles. Tony Anderson and Jessie Nelson were one off the pace to finish second with a round of 98 followed by the team of Roger Grant and Allen Schwanke with a 101.
A total of 23 teams competed in the event.
Mark Rimer, Roger Robinson and Jessie Nelson were the winners in the 50/50 contest on hole number three with tee shots closest to the pin during the three rounds.
