Big City Equals Big Competition For Local Athlete Kiel Fogle

Kiel Fogle and fiancée Kim Bair met up with his parents, Kevin and Jeanette Fogle of Memphis, in St. Louis on June 10, 2006. They had picked up Kiel’s sister, Samantha Poe, of Moberly and were driving down to watch the “Who Tri’s Harder” triathlon the following day.

Kiel had been training at distances to prepare him for his first Quartermax triathlon, which consists of a consecutive 0.6-mile swim, 28-mile bike, and a 6.5-mile run.

However, the morning of the competition posed terrible racing conditions with heavy thunderstorms continuing from the night before, and the race was cut in half after many delays. After the storms had settled down to a light rain, the race began.

The 20-year-old Fogle finished 8th in the 20- to 24-year-old age group and placed in the top third overall.

Two weeks later, Kiel rose to victory in Quincy, IL placing 1st in the 20- to 29-year-old age group of a 10k (6.2 mile) run at Quincy Notre Dame High School near South Park.
