Memphis Swim Team Participates in First Meet
The Memphis branch of the Can-oka (Canton/Kahoka) Swim Team got off to a quick start, having their first competition after only one week of practice. Three Memphis youth competed in their first meet, which was for swimmers ages 10 and under, at Canton on Saturday, June 17th.
Lydia Hunt had an impressive first-time showing, finishing first in all of her three eventsóthe Girls 6 & Under 25-Yard Backstroke, the Girls 6 & Under 25-Yard Freestyle, and the Mixed 6 & Under 100-Yard Freestyle Relay.
Sadie Davis received a blue ribbon for first place in the Girls 6 & Under 25-Yard Breaststroke, second place in the Mixed 6 & Under 100-Yard Freestyle Relay, and third place in the Girls 6 & Under 25-Yard Freestyle.
Vince Youmans swam to third place in the Boys 6 & Under 25-Yard Freestyle and received second place in the Mixed 6 & Under 100-Yard Freestyle Relay.
The most notable victory of the day is that all three of these young, beginning swimmers swam all of their races, which were the entire length of the pool, without stopping, touching the bottom, or hanging on the ropes. This is an accomplishment for six-year-olds stated coach Trinity Davis.
The Memphis Swim Teamís upcoming meets are at Quincy Sheridan Swim Club on June 22 at 6:00 p.m. and Kahoka City Pool on June 24 at 10:00 a.m. All future meets will feature all age groups up to age 18.
The Memphis Swim Team is under the direction of Trinity Davis and Jennifer Youmans. Contact one of the coaches or the Memphis Swimming Pool for more information.
