State Playoff Berth Eludes SCR-I Campus Bowl Team
The Scotland County campus bowl team saw its hopes of a berth in the state playoffs slip away in the second half of the Class 2 District 4 championship match. Knox County blew the title game wide open with a 145-5 run in the contestís final 10 questions to secure the district title with a 285-140 victory over the Tigers.
Scotland County opened the 12-team event with a 250-205 victory over Canton. SCR-I rallied from a 200-175 deficit on the gameís final five questions to advance in the tourney. Julie Triplett answered eight toss-up questions to lead the scoring. Loren Billington answered four questions while Lance Smith and Michelle Lodewegen contributed three answers a piece.
The Tigers dispatched conference rival Putnam County with ease in match #2. SCR-I posted a 385-80 victory behind another strong game from Triplett. The all-conference performer answered 12 toss-up questions.
Paris was no match for SCR-I in a third-round contest. The Tigers rolled past Paris 270-110 to advance to the final four. Triplett answered eight toss-up questions and Billington added five answers.
Scotland County was seeded #2 in the finals and faced off with #3 South Shelby in the opener. The Tigers prevailed 210-185 behind Billington who answered eight toss-up questions.
SCR-I advanced to play top-seeded Knox County in the championship match.
The Tigers took a 40-30 lead after the first period and lead 80-55 midway through the second quarter before the Eagles rallied to lead 95-85 at the intermission.
Scotland County kept the game close through three periods, trailing 155-135 heading into the final bonus round. The Eagles secured the win with a huge fourth period.
Billington and Smith led Scotland County by answering four toss-up questions.
