Scotland County Clinches Campus Bowl Conference Title With Back-to-Back Wins

After inclement weather forced the cancellation of the teamsí regularly scheduled match last week, Scotland County took on the task of facing North Shelby on April 6th. What made the meeting even more difficult was the fact that the Tigers then turned around and played the league finale against Putnam County.

But the Tigers were not phased by the unusual doubleheader. Scotland County blasted North Shelby 270-110 to remain unbeaten in league play. SCR-I followed that up with a 275-195 victory over the Midgets to finalize a perfect season and secure the Tri-Rivers Conference title.

Scotland County wasted little time jumping out in front of North Shelby. SCR-I answered nine of the first 15 questions to build a 90-30 lead in the first period.

The margin grew to 160-65 at the intermission before Scotland County put the game away with another big run on toss-up questions. The Tigers outscored North Shelby 70-20 in the third period to seal the win.

Julie Triplett answered nine toss-up questions in the victory. Lance Smith answered six questions and Michelle Lodewegen contributed four correct answers.

That set up the season finale versus the Midgets. The contest was never as close as the final score might indicate. Scotland County answered 10 of the first 12 toss-up questions en route to a 110-10 first period lead.

The two teams played a fairly even second period but the Midgets were unable to shrink the deficit beyond 190-85 at the break.

The toss-up round saw SCR-I build a 250-125 cushion and the Tigers rolled on to the 275-195 win to finish the conference schedule undefeated.

Triplett answered 10 toss-up questions in the win while Smith and Loren Billington each answered four toss-up questions.
