Lady Tigers Finish 2nd At A-Club Relays in Bloomfield
The Scotland County varsity girls track team opened the 2006 season at the A-Club Relays in Bloomfield on April 4th and came home with a second-place finish overall, tying with Albia as runner-up to the host team, Davis County.
Tara Matlock helped SCR-I get a jump on the competition. The freshman marked 14’ 7.5” in the long jump to take top honors and earn the Lady Tigers 12 points toward their 120-point total.
She didn’t stop there. Matlock took second place in the 200-meter dash and teammate Ashlie Cooper finished sixth in the event.
Ali Fromm contributed first-place points in the 100-meter low hurdles. She crossed the finish line in a time of 17.461 seconds. Betsey Kittle was two spots behind, taking third in a time of 18.773 seconds.
The relay races proved beneficial for the Lady Tigers as well.
Scotland County took first place in the sprint medley event. Valerie Oldham, Kristan Kaldenberg, Andrea Shelley and Jessica Bair combined to finish in 2 minutes 8.499 seconds. The school’s 4x200 relay team also took honors. The team consisted of Fromm, Matlock, Oldham and Kaldenberg.
The 4x400 team made it three relay wins for Scotland County. Fromm, Matlock, Melissa Cotton and Kirsten Johnston finished first in a time of 4 minutes 36.234 seconds.
Scotland County’s 4x100 relay team of Kaycee Paul, Kittle, Kaldenberg and Christina Duzan took second place.
Other top individual performances were turned in by a number of Lady Tigers.
Johnston finished second in the 400-meter dash with Turner taking third place.
Oldham finished third in the 100-meter dash followed by Paul in fourth.
Cotton finished fifth in the 800-meter run with Ciera Turner taking sixth.
Cotton also finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 4’8”.
Angie Bulen picked up third place in the shot put with a throw of 29’5”. She also finished fourth in the discus clearing 78’1”.
