Indians Rally On Final Question To Win SCR-I Campus Bowl Tourney

The Scotland County varsity campus bowl team saw its hopes of a title in its own tournament slip away on the final question of the title match when Clark County rallied for a 255-240 victory to win the championship of the Scotland County Campus Bowl Tournament March 9th.

Scotland County advanced to the title game with a pair of impressive wins.

The Tigers beat Canton 365-245 in the opening round. SCR-I led 195-165 at the half before blowing the contest open in the fourth quarter. Julie Triplett answered 14 toss-up questions to lead the scoring. Lance Smith answered four questions while Michelle Lodewegen had three and Loren Billington had two.

SCR-I secured a spot in the finals with a 360-235 win over Monroe City. Triplett led the attack with 90 points while Smith had 30 and Billington and Lodewegen each had 30.

In the championship match, the Tigers built a 70-40 first-quarter lead and expanded the margin to 130-90 at the intermission. SCR-I held on to a 160-140 advantage prior to the final bonus round.

Scotland County led by as many as 60 points with just four questions left in the game but that proved enough as Clark County scored the gameís final 75 points to rally for the 255-240 victory.

Smith answered eight toss-up questions to lead Scotland County in scoring. Triplett answered four questions while Lodewegen and Billington answered two questions.

Knox County defeated Canton in the third-place game.

Eight players earned all-bowl team honors for the top-scoring averages in the vent. Tade Blake of Putnam County was named the team captain with a 11.0 scoring average. Cody Couch of Knox County and Ben Fitschen of Canton averaged 10.3 questions answered in the tourney. Triplett had a 9.3 scoring average. Jacob Masters (8.3) of Monroe City, Gabe Shoup (7.3) of Clark County, Smith (6.3) of SCR-I and Gunner Golden (5.3) of Schuyler County also were named to the all-bowl team.
