SCR-I Campus Bowl Team Takes Second In Kirksville Tourney

The Scotland County varsity campus bowl team opened the 2006 regular season in impressive fashion, bringing home a second place finish from the 12-team Kirksville Tourney held January 28th.

The Tigers swept through the preliminary round and the semifinals before falling to the host team in the championship match.

SCR-I opened the tourney with a 290-220 victory over Canton. The Tigers held off a late challenge by Canton, thanks to a strong game from Julie Triplett. She led the team in scoring, answering eight toss-up questions. Michelle Lodewegen answered four questions while Loren Billington and Lance Smith each had 30 points.

Game two was a 190-125 win for Scotland County over Green City. Triplett again led the way with eight toss-up answers. LaPlata was the next to fall, as the Tigers shut-out the Bulldogs in the opening half en route to a 140-95 victory. Triplett led all scorers with seven answers.

The final bracket consisted of the four teams with the best records from the preliminary round. SCR-I was pitted against Macon, while Kirksville took on Pekin.

Scotland County advanced to the title game, beating Macon 185-110. Triplett answered seven toss-up questions while Smith had four.

Kirksville proved too much for the Tigers in the championship match. The home team jumped out to a 70-30 lead in the first period. SCR-I battled back to tie the game midway through the second period before Kirksville pulled away late for the 265-165 win.

Triplett led the way for Scotland County with 60 points and Lodewegen had 30 points.
