Fromm Leads SCR-I To Win In Tourney Opener
Ali Fromm matched her season-high of 23 points, and she did all that work in the first half of Scotland County’s 66-31 victory over Atlanta in the opening round of the North Shelby Tournament on January 16th.
The senior guard scored the game’s first seven points as the Lady Tigers took a 9-4 lead early in the contest.
Kirsten Johnston drilled a three pointer that started a 10-0 SCR-I run to end the first period with the Lady Tigers leading 19-4.
Scotland County kept the pressure on in the second period. Five straight points by Fromm extended the lead to 26-6. She continued her hot shooting, hitting back-to-back three pointers to close the first half with SCR-I on top 36-18.
Johnston and Angie Bulen combined for 10 points in the third period as Scotland County maintained a 48-24 margin heading into the game’s final eight minutes.
Six different Lady Tigers scored in the fourth quarter when SCR-I scored 18 points despite a running clock much of the last period. Johnston had six points and Jamie Fuller added five points as the Lady Tigers sealed the 66-31 victory.
Fromm led all scorers with 23 points. Johnston pitched in with 15 points while Fuller finished with nine points. Scotland County improved to 8-6 and the top seeded team now advances to the tourney semifinals on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. to take on the winner of the Schuyler County and Brashear contest.
