Seventh Grade Girls Complete Perfect Basketball Season
A perfect season nearly slipped away from the Scotland County seventh grade girls basketball team, which found itself trailing Clark County late in the fourth quarter of the season finale.
But Skyler Alderton had two clutch baskets that fueled a 13-8 run late in the game to rally SCR-I for the 26-25 victory that secured a perfect 14-0 mark for the 2005 season.
The Lady Tigers opened the year October 31st against the Indians with a 37-20 win. Ashley Tague led the way with 14 points and Jamie Shaw finished with 10.
The two teams had a rematch the following night with SCR-I coming out on top 25-14 led by Aimee Dale with eight points.
After a week off, SCR-I returned to play with a 30-9 win over Schuyler County behind 11 points from Tague.
The team moved to 4-0 on the year with a 24-18 victory over Knox County. Jamie Shaw led a balanced scoring effort with eight points. Ivy Hauk added six points and Anna Duley pitched in with four points.
SCR-I took a defensive battle over Kirksville 16-6 on November 11th to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Schuyler County was the next to fall to the impressive SCR-I march. The Lady Tigers beat the Rams 20-7 led by 11 points from Tague.
The girls made it two straight games holding opponents to single digits as SCR-I bested Putnam County 22-9 behind 10 points from Shaw.
Canton could not stop the winning streak as the Lady Tigers won 22-12 on November 19th. Shaw had six points, Alderton had four and Becca Briggs had two points in the win.
Scotland County got its first scare on November 29th, narrowly escaping with a 22-20 victory over Knox County.
The girls got the offense rolling to welcome the month of December, scoring 36 points in the first game of the month to beat Schuyler County by eight points. Shaw topped the score book with 11 points. Tague finished with nine while Katlyn Miller added eight points.
Three days later it was Canton that fell to the SCR-I streak, 30-14. Dale and Tague each had 10 points in the victory.
The team improved to 12-0 with a 34-10 win over Putnam County.
Dale exploded for a season-high 19 points as the Lady Tigers beat Kirksville 36-17 on December 9th to set up the season finale.
The girls came out a little tight with so much riding on the line. But SCR-I came through in the end with the one-point win over the Indians. Tague topped the scoring effort with 10 points and Shaw added nine.
