STANLEY WAYNE GLASGOW
(7/23/1933 – 11/19/2006)
Stanley Wayne Glasgow, 73, of Edina, Missouri, passed away November 19, 2006 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
He was born on July 23, 1933, south of Rutledge, Missouri, the son of Carl Raymond and Hallie Mae Rector Glasgow.
Stanley attended the Antioch, Millport, Rule and Dailing rural schools before enlisting in the United States Army. He worked more than 32 years as a rural letter carrier in Rutledge, Meta, Bunceton and finally Edina, Missouri, retiring in 2002.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Edina, Missouri, the American Legion Post of Knox City, Missouri and the Rural Letter Carriers Association.
On June 15, 1956, in Edina, Missouri, Stanley married Reta Mae Goodwin and to this union three children were born.
He is survived by his wife, Reta Glasgow of Edina, Missouri; two sons, Stephen and his wife Dixie Glasgow of Grinnell, Iowa and Mike Glasgow of Edina, Missouri; a daughter, Pamela and her husband Raun Ward of Landrum, South Carolina; a brother, Bob and his wife Evelyn Glasgow of Edina, Missouri; five grandchildren, Amy Glasgow of Washington, D.C., Evan Glasgow of Edina, Missouri, Kimberly and her husband Greg Mathes of Kirksville, Missouri, Noel and her husband Matthew Thompson of Landrum, South Carolina and Kara Ward of Landrum, South Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Summer and Tyrell Thompson, Brody, Tanner and Ashtyn Mathes; along with nieces, nephew, cousins and a host of friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were November 22, 2006, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Burial with Full Military Honors was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.
Reverend Dwayne Wellborn officiated and Reverend Ernest Deatrick and Reverend Maynard Blackwood assisted. Music was provided by Rita Worthington, Wynona Banks and Evelyn Glasgow.
Casket bearers were Harley Hamlin, Wayne Martin, Billy Mallett, Larry Hubbard, Leon James and Tim Schrage. Honorary bearers were Kenneth Klocke, Madeline Ewing, Byron Ewalt, Jerry Whitmire, Raymond Rudicil, Gail James, Duane Fountain, Ann Moyer and Lynn Douglas.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Stanley Glasgow may be left to the First Christian Church of Edina or the American Cancer Society. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
