HELEN R. OVERFIELD
(4/17/1921 - 11/14/2006)
Helen R. Overfield, 85, died November 14, 2006 at her home in Memphis, Missouri.
She was born April 17, 1921 at Etna, Missouri to DeLoss and Mabel Mohr Dye. She attended school through the eighth grade at Etna.
She married George Newton Overfield on December 13, 1939 and to this union a son and daughter was born.
Helen was a stay-at-home mother and housewife. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was affiliated with the First Christian Church.
She is survived by a son, Wendell Overfield and his wife, Helen, of Gillette, Wyoming; a granddaughter, Kimberly R. Smith of Memphis, Missouri; three grandsons; Lee A. Overfield of Gillette, Wyoming, Douglas R. Overfield of Gillette, Wyoming; Michael J. Smith and his wife, Kimberly, of Memphis, Missouri, and four great grandchildren; Ryan and Carter Overfield of Gillette, Wyoming and Brooke and Marcus Smith of Memphis, Missouri. Other survivors include two sisters; Dorothy Luedtke of Keokuk, Iowa and Betty St. Clair of Webb City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Linda C. Smith, a son-in-law, John R. Smith and two brothers; John Dye and Robert Dye.
Graveside services were held November 18, 2006 at Lawn Ridge Cemetery in rural Scotland County with burial following. Brother Jack Sumption officiated the service. Casket bearers were Brian Gutting, Steve Dye, Bob Dye, Steve Andrews, Philip Hicks and Kevin Fountain.
