MABEL JOSEPHINE JONES

Mabel Josephine Jones passed away November 10, 2006, in Hernando Pasco Hospice.
She was born February 10, 1911, in Albert Lea, MN, the eldest daughter of Joseph and Hilda (Smock) George.
At an early age, her family moved to Schuyler County, MO.
She married Luel Edward Jones on April 13, 1932. To this union one son, Donald, was born.
She moved to Kirksville, MO, in 1981 to be near her family and moved to Florida in 1987.
As a young girl she worked in various restaurants in Schuyler County. For several years, she was a telephone operator in Downing, MO. She retired from the Downing Elementary School, where she was a cook for many years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Downing, and a member of the Chancey Road Christian Church at the time of her death.
She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, better known to her family as Dodder. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, including her many friends and neighbors. She was always there to lend a helping hand when there was a need. She enjoyed participating in the community activities and events.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and one sister.
She is survived by her son, Donald and wife, Mary B. of Zephyrhills, FL; two grandsons, Kenneth and wife, Marla of Clinton, MO, and Keith and wife, Lori of Kernersville, NC; one granddaughter, Charlotte and husband, Danny Slusher of Minneola, FL; nine great-grandchildren, Meredith and Alexander of Clinton, MO, Austin and wife, Melynne of Kirksville, MO, Tabitha. Deborah, Timothy and Nathanael of Kernersville, NC, Elizabeth and Gabriel Slusher of Minneola, FL; two sisters, Edith Wheeler of Kirksville, MO, and Louise Sternfield of Ormand Beach, FL; one brother, Joe Smock of Hot Springs, AR, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Downing Christian Church on November 16, 2006, with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating, with burial in the Coffey Cemetery. Music was provided by Betty Anderson, organist, and Cole Tippett, soloist. Pallbearers were Kenneth Jones, Austin Jones, Keith Jones, Alex Jones, Merle Dunham and I.G. Ruth.
Rebekah services were held at the Downing Christian Church. Memorials have been established for the Coffey Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Norman Funeral Home, Downing, MO.
