C.L. “HUFF” HUFFMAN

C.L. “Huff” Huffman, 89, of Knox City, MO, passed away October 19, 2006, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, MO.
The son of Claude and Jewel (Thompson) Huffman, he was born May 9, 1917, in Knox County, MO.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Pauline Shotton on July 16, 1939, at Macon, MO, and she preceded him in death on July 19, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Downing, Robert and Harold Huffman and two sisters, Margurette Myers and Mary Alice Croy.
Surviving are one daughter, Dottie Pulse of Knox City, MO; three grandchildren, Keith and LaVerne Pulse, Karen and Terry Goodwin, Tony and Rhonda Pulse and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Huff was reared in the Knox City community and graduated from the Knox City High School. During his high school days, he worked in a café for his room and board.
At one time he had owned and operated five businesses, including Huffs Café from 1945 to 1972, Huffs Service Station from 1940 to 1964 and Huffs Insurance Agency from 1951 to 1994. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Knox City United Methodist Church and also was a Sunday School teacher. He was very instrumental in getting the Knox County Public Water District I established and served as president on the board for many years. Huff was a 50-year member of both the Knox City American Legion Post No. 358 and Edina Lodge No. 291 A.F. & A.M.
Funeral services were held October 22, 2006, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home at Edina, MO, with Reverend Clint Wofford officiating. Music was provided by JoAnne Layman, soloist, and Carol Hayes, organist. Burial was in the Knox City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Knox City American Legion Post No. 358 at Knox City, MO. Casket bearers were Bob Huffman, Bobby Huffman, Fred Carder Layman, Tony Pulse, Keith Pulse and J.V. Norton.
An expression of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Children’s Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO, in memory of C.L. “Huff” Huffman. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, MO 63537.
