Mildred Madeline Eggleston, 89, of Memphis, MO, passed away September 18, 2006, at Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

Mildred was born October 13, 1916, in Scotland County, MO, the daughter of William E. and Isalya Lough.

She grew up on a farm east of Memphis. She attended the North Mt. Pleasant Grade School and Memphis High School. Mildred furthered her education at the Kirksville Teachers College where she obtained her Teachers Degree afterwards. Mildred taught grade school at numerous country grade schools, which involved the Brock and Wilson Schools.

On September 7, 1940, she married Austin Everet Eggleston. They were married at the Christian Church in Memphis, MO. Together they started and spent many years on their own livestock farming operation in the Brock Community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin in 2005, and her parents and one brother, Paul of Modesto, CA, and her only grandson, Damen preceded her in death in 1994.

Mildred is also survived by her daughter, Jane and granddaughter, Jada of Merriam, KS; two sons, Stan and wife, Patty, and granddaughters, Sara and Julie of Memphis, MO; and John and wife, Dee Dee of Memphis, MO.

Mildred was a member of the Brock Methodist Church and participated actively in the Brock 4-H club. Also she was involved with the Brock Grade School, PTA, and other school functions.

Besides her love for her family and home she most enjoyed gardening, sewing and playing the piano. She was also very devoted to her livestock and to the farm.

The family has suggested memorials to the Scotland County Care Center Bus Fund and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held September 21, 2006, at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Musicians were Ann Luther, organist, and Schelle Cooley, soloist. Pallbearers were Bill Kiddoo, Roy Hyde, Doug Freburg, Steve Morris, John Aylward, and Bob Henselman. Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Good, Bill Ketchum, and Bill Ebling. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Arrangements were handled by the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis.
